First Year Course Tips and Recommendations

When you register, complete the Consent for Release of Information sections (Finance and Media).
You are the only one who can receive specific information about your finances at Briercrest unless you grant permission.
E.g., Mom can’t be told how much you owe when she calls to pay your bill unless you’ve specifically identified her.

4. PREPARE FINANCES
The Cost Calculator is an excellent tool to determine your costs.
Consult the Finance section for full information.
Your first payment is due on the first day of class - January 8.

5. SUBMIT RESIDENCE APPLICATION FORM
If you plan to be a dorm student, the form was sent to you by your Admissions Adviser.

6. SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS
All official hard copy transcripts (high school and post-secondary) must be submitted.
*no scanned copies

7. SELECT YOUR MEAL PLAN IN BRIERCREST LIVE
Meal plans can be changed in person at the dining hall or the Cash Counter until the course add/drop deadline: January 15
If you have dietary restrictions, please contact your Admissions Adviser.

8. GET YOUR ID PHOTO TAKEN
Visit our Information Systems department to get your photo taken for your ID card. You will also pick up your ID from here when it is ready.
Your ID card is required to access the dining hall and to check out library books.
Replacement cards can be requested for a fee in Briercrest Live.

9. PREPARE FOR MEDICAL NEEDS
Transfer medical prescriptions and arrange a family doctor before coming to campus if you have ongoing medical needs.

10. PREPARE RESOURCES
November and December - Check course book lists and buy your textbooks from the Briercrest Bookstore online or in person.
Late December - Download your course syllabi (course guides) in Briercrest Live for each class.
Early January onward - Your instructors want to help you succeed. Visit them during their office hours well before due dates.

11. PLAN YOUR SEMESTER
Stay on top of Key Dates and Deadlines - posted below, on bulletin boards around campus, and online
TIP #1: Pay particular attention to the Add/Drop deadline. That’s the last day you can add courses and the last day you can drop them without penalty (academic and financial). It's also the last day you can change your meal plan.
TIP #2: Write all your due dates on a calendar.
TIP #3: Do not schedule travel before your final exams are complete. Exams will not be moved to accommodate your travel plans.
